This December, back by popular demand, Santa Claus is getting tech-savvy by sending kids (and kids at heart) text message updates from him and Mrs. Claus throughout the month, leading up to December 25th. Santa is checking his list and is planning to send holiday trivia, music, mad libs and even quizzes that allow you to find out which holiday character is most like you. Plus, he’ll make sure the holiday season is full of status updates as he prepares for his big night.
“I’m giving everyone a behind-the-scenes look of our team’s preparations,” said Claus, “and want to show everyone how they can spread holiday cheer in their everyday lives.”
Why text messages? Ever since Santa Claus launched his inaugural texting campaign last year he realized how relevant the communication channel is. “When you think about it,” said Claus, “what could be more special than receiving a message from me in the palm of your hand?”
Santa Claus will partner with SlickText for the second year in a row to make it all happen. “We started the ‘Text Santa’ campaign last year to contribute to the joy of the holiday season while awaiting Santa’s visit,” said Meg Scales, chief marketing officer at SlickText. “By creating a way to interact with Santa via text, we’re updating old-school traditions with newer technology. Our goal is to make the anticipation of Santa’s visit more enjoyable as the holiday approaches, especially as many children will not be able to meet Santa in person this year.”
The campaign is also in partnership with North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). Each year, NORAD enables people to track Santa’s exact location leading up to the Christmas holiday through the “NORAD Tracks Santa®” program. It is a community engagement program supporting the relationship between NORAD and the U.S. population by sharing knowledge of NORAD’s mission while increasing goodwill and community awareness during the December holiday season.
All texts received through SlickText’s, “Text Santa” campaign will be child-friendly. Aside from texting Santa with interactive questions, you can expect to receive approximately one text from him every five days starting December 1, and then once per day in the week leading up to December 25. You will never receive non-Santa related information or receive any texts after December 25.
